Bullish cycle running hot, what's it mean? Raymond Merriman's preview for 10/24/11 week

It's easy to be bearish into a low, and bullish into a high. Nice to have insight from the likes of Raymond Merriman to see all this in context! So read on to understand the current bullish environment, and where it may (not) lead. These preview comments are in addition to his more detailed subscription services mentioned in his announcements section and at his website. He also analyzes other countries' markets, economy, the political climate, bonds, currencies and commodities. He also offers detailed paid subscription services (daily, weekly and monthly available, at his website always at the right side of the page here). Here are Ray's comments for the upcoming week, from his site at Merriman Market Analyst - MMA Cycles Weekly Preview Comments:

MMA Comments for the Week Beginning October 24, 2011

Written by Raymond Merriman

Review and Preview

It was a very ragged but positive week for many of the world's stock indices last week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, for example, started the week at its highest level since early September at 11,643. By the next day, Tuesday, October 18, it had fallen to 11,296, right into weekly support as defined in our weekly subscription reports. By the end of the week it had advanced to its highest level since the first week of August, thus confirming this as a new primary cycle, as well as a longer-term cycle too. Precious metals also embarked upon a wild ride last week, with Gold rising to 1696.80 last Monday, October 17, its highest level following its stumble to 1535 on September 26. By Thursday, October 20, it was back down, testing the 1600 mark again before recovering smartly on Friday. After trading above 3300 the previous week (October 12), Silver had fallen below 3000 on Thursday, October 20. But then following the announcements of Col. Gadhafi's death and Europe's delay in announcing its comprehensive reform plan to resolve the Euro zone's debt crisis, all financial markets sprang sharply higher on Friday, including equities and precious metals. For precious metals, this is more in line with what was expected from heliocentric Mercury in Sagittarius, October 15-27. For equity markets, we just expected sharp price swings both directions, and we certainly had that last week.

Short-Term Geocosmics

Did you hang on to your seats last week as advised? Then don't let go, because there are more peaks and valleys in store for this week and into the first week of November. Heliocentric Mercury is well into Sagittarius now. But that will end October 27. However, that will not end the volatility and big price swings because the "big daddy" of them all – the Sun in opposition to the biggest planet in the solar system (Jupiter) – occurs October 28. Interestingly enough, Jupiter will also form a long-term trine aspect (120 degree spatial arc) to Pluto, the longest orbiting (dwarf) planet of this solar system. That's a lot of "big stuff" coming up! And just in time too for some big announcements, such as the European leaders announcing their long awaited plan to solve their too long-standing debt crisis. The hope is that this announcement on the European debt crisis will be a real constructive reform plan, as Jupiter in trine to Pluto would suggest (Pluto is reform, Jupiter is big, the trine is considered favorable and with agreement). But the fear is that it will disappoint, for Jupiter is always subject to over-hype and over-estimation of what it brings to the table. In this case, it may promise the equivalent of a hardy, full-bodied, rich wine, only instead to deliver a hangover because the grape was harvested just a little too early or too late. You see, in our work, timing is (almost) everything. The same is true in politics. Instead of green, the banks and the economies of the Euro zone could be seeing more red in its future. And the red doesn't apply just the state of the balance sheet, which is falling deeper and deeper into the "red" zone. It may also apply to the emotio al state of the populations in member countries like Germany and France, which may be "angry red" at their leaders for using their taxpayer monies to bail out countries (like siblings) who just can't or won't change their ways for the betterment of the rest of the "family." The feeling of resentment - and unwillingness of the populace to continue bailing out governments that can't control their spending, create a job-creation climate, and balance their accounts - is all a part of the Uranus-Pluto square coming up in2012-2015. It can be especially critical in Europe, based on the chart of the Euro currency, created January 1, 1999. It can also be especially critical in the United States. In both charts, the Uranus-Pluto square will touch off hard aspects of reform to the natal Sun. Things just won't continue on as before. There will be reforms and they will be painful. But as stated last week, the reforms will be the pain of birth, not death, for it is a waxing square, not a waning one.

Longer-Term Thoughts

Sometimes it seems like there is this omniscient Clock Setter in the heavens. Throughout the first half of this year, this column continuously stated that a high in the stock market was ideally due between May 2 and July 22, based on the historical correlation of the Jupiter's transit through the zodiac U.S. equity prices. These studies, going back to the 1870's, yielded a very high correlation to long-term stock market peaks when Jupiter was within 7° of the Aries-Taurus border, known as a "cusp" in the study of astrology. It is also known as an "ingress" when a planet passes from one sign to another. In this case, the stock market peak occurs when Jupiter is within 7° of its ingress into Taurus. This column also pointed out that Jupiter would turn retrograde and return back to 0-7° of Taurus from October 7, 2011 through March 7, 2012. At the time, I commented that either one of these time bands could be the crest of the 4-year cycle: either May 2-July 22, 2011, or October 7, 20-11-March 7, 2012, based on the history of Jupiter's transit through this sector of the heavens. Sure enough, the U.S. stock market (as measured by the Dow Joes Industrial Average) made its high of the year at 12,876 on May 2. It made a double and triple top around 12,750 on July 7 and July 21. From there, the DJIA fell nearly 20% to a low just two weeks ago, on October 4, 2011, at 10,405, just three days before the second time band for a possible 4-year cycle crest began. Then, just like clockwork, the DJIA started its next big rally into October 7-March 7. On Friday, the DJIA closed above 11,800 for the first time since the first week of August. Just two weeks ago everyone was bearish. Now many analysts are forecasting a move to a new yearly high, and some even to a new all-time high. Geocosmics could support either argument, for the Jupiter transit only states that between October 7 and March 7 there will be another important crest. It may or may not take out the high of May 2, 2011. In the field of Financial Astrology, it doesn't matter. It only matters that it makes another long-term cycle crest in this time band, whether it is the crest of a 15.5-month cycle, or the crest of the greater 4-year cycle, is indeterminable at this time via Financial Astrology. A 15.5-month cycle crest does not have to be a higher than the 12,876 high of May 2. A 4-year cycle crest can be. But either way, Financial Astrology strongly suggests that a bear market into 2014-2015 is likely to resume. From our perspective, this is where the study of cycles and technical analysis will come in handy. Combined with knowledge of chart patterns within this new 15.5-month cycle will help us to determine when and what price the next big turn will commence, per the rules laid down in Volume 5 of "The Ultimate Book on Stock Market Timing: Technical Analysis and Price Targets." For now, however, all our subscription services – from the MMA Cycles monthly report, to the position and aggressive traders of the weekly and daily reports - are all long from at least the lows of last Tuesday, and some before then. And some of the more aggressive traders will be taking profits very shortly. After all, the crest of this new 15.5-month cycle can occur at any time between October 7, 2011 and March 7, 2012, according to the studies of Financial Astrology. That is why this subject gives that "edge that all traders seek."

"The Ultimate Book on Stock Market Timing, Volume 5: Price Objectives and Technical Analysis" is now out as of just two weeks ago! The comments and reviews are starting to come in, and we will post them here one at a time. Here is one of the first: "I am a long time Merriman Market Analysis Newsletter reader. It has never ceased to amaze me how accurate those levels are given in the newsletter. I often wonder how Ray calculates those levels. By setting up my trades using those levels together with his timing methodology, I have profited greatly. I sincerely feel that Volume 5 of the series finally gives the whole investment community the full story about Ray's lifetime work and the complete description of his financial astrology methodology. It will be a great treasure to all serious market participants." Kenneth Laio, Trader and Chief Technology Officer, Sequoia Media Inc., Beijing, China.

This book took two years to write, which is par for each of the five books of this series that started in 1997. This is a book describing the tools that serious traders that I know use. I use them. Many of my subscribers use them, although not that many know how I calculate price targets to go along with market timing. This book identifies the formulas I personally use to calculate price targets, and the trading plans I find that work using these market timing and technical indicators. This book is packed with powerful tools (signals), and if you take the time to learn these tools properly, your chances of being a successful trader will increase tremendously, IMHO. The book is 300 pages, printed in perfect bind format, gloss cover, 8-1/2" x 11" size. The retail price of this new book is $144.00. If you are interested in this unique and integrated methodology for analyzing and forecasting stock indices, you can save big bucks by ordering all five volumes, or choice of any four now at, or just go to and scroll down to the announcement. If ordering all five volumes, you will save $99.00! For more information on this book, go to YouTube at, describing this new book. It is "the missing link." This weekly report is written with the intent to educate the reader on the relationship between astrological factors and collective human activities as they are happening. In this regard, this report will oftentimes report what happened in various stock and financial markets throughout the world in the past week, and discuss that movement in light of the geocosmic signatures that were in effect. It will then identify the geocosmic factors that will be in effect in the next week, or even month, or even years, and the author's understanding of how these signatures will likely affect human activity in the times to come. The author (Merriman) will do this from a perspective of a cycle's analyst looking at the military, political, economic, and even financial markets of the world.

It is possible that some forecasts will be made based on these factors. However, the primary goal is to both educate and alert the reader as to the psychological climate we are in, from an astrological perspective. The hope is that it will help the reader understand these psychological dynamics that underlie (or coincide with) the news events and hence financial markets of the day.
