Markets' early Santa rally & divergences may be traders' gift into New Year: Raymond Merriman's 12/26/11 preview comments

As Raymond Merriman predicted last weekend, we did see volatility, then a Santa rally sooner than normal. Well, except for the Nasdaq which was more volatile. Ray discusses this and more - traders should be very interested, even if regular investors might prefer to step aside from volatility that may increase in the next couple of weeks (thanks again, Ray!). These preview comments are in addition to his more detailed subscription services mentioned in his announcements section and at his website. He also analyzes other countries' markets, economy, the political climate, bonds, currencies and commodities. He also offers detailed paid subscription services (daily, weekly and monthly available, at his website always at the right side of the page here). Here are Ray's comments for the upcoming week, from his site at Merriman Market Analyst - MMA Cycles Weekly Preview Comments:

MMA Comments for the Week Beginning December 26, 2011

Written by Raymond Merriman

This will be a brief weekly column, as will next week's too, due to the holiday season and the fact that I will take time off to work on my eyes.

Review and Preview

The stock markets of the world mostly bottomed on Monday of last week, following the Venus-Saturn square, and then rallied into the end of the week under a slew of buoyant Jupiter transits. The final one occurs on Christmas Day, December 25. It is an important one, known as "Jupiter turning stationary direct." It is important because it marks Jupiter's closest return to the Aries-Taurus cusp, the midpoint of the zodiacal correlate to a crest in U.S. stock indices. That is, long-term cycles in U.S. stocks top out when Jupiter is between 23° Aries and 7° Taurus. The midpoint is 0° Taurus. Jupiter is turning stationary direct at 0° Taurus on December 25. It will remain between 0-7° of Taurus until March 7. Sometime in this period we anticipate the 15.5-month phase of the 4-year year stock market will top out. The ideal astrological time would be close to December 25, but it can happen anywhere up to 7° of Taurus and still satisfy this study, as described in detail in this year's Forecast 2012 Book.

We may also be getting one of the bearish patterns for a reversal in the stock market as described in our final and latest volume of "The Ultimate Book on Stock Market Timing, Volume 5: Price Objectives and Technical Analysis." This pattern is known as "intermarket bearish divergence," between the DJIA and S&P nearby futures. We could soon see the same set up in Treasuries, and the opposite set up ("bullish intermarket divergence") in precious metals.

In short, the next two weeks could present extremely attractive trading opportunities, as seen from a geocosmic, cyclic, and technical point of view. They are all in the process of setting up for exceptional risk-reward trades.

Short-Term Geocosmics

We are now in the midst of a translation from the Sun to the approaching Uranus-Pluto waxing square, the "big one" that will dominate the heavens (and hence our outlook based on Financial Astrology) from June 2012-March 2015. This solar translation takes place December 22, as the Sun formed its waning square to Uranus, and December 28, when the Sun conjuncts Pluto. We note that the market is rising into this translation period. Normally this would coincide with a top followed by a sharp reversal down. I say "normally," because holiday markets are not "normal." Holiday markets may or may not follow this "normal" correlation. After all, the market isn't even open 3 of these 6 days, and volume is apt to be light on the other days. We may not see the effect of this translation until the first few days of next year.

Longer-Term Thoughts and Transit Tales

On behalf of all of us at MMA, I would like to wish each of you a very happy holiday season. I would also like to once again express my gratitude to all of you who have sent in kind words of support for our services and studies shared, as well as the personal best wishes for the healing of my current vision issues.

I know that many of you who read this column have some understanding of astrology. So let me share with you the personal astrology transits and progressions that I believe coincide with this eye situation.

It is my left eye, which is ruled by the Moon in a man's chart. But I also believe Neptune has much to do with vision, for when afflicted, it represents "cloudiness" in one's view, as if in fog. Neptune has rulership over Pisces, so developments involving Pisces can also coincide with not seeing things properly.

In my progressed chart, Mercury has just turned retrograde in the sixth house of health – at 23° Pisces, no less (trine my natal Venus, so I look good with an eye patch). When I began the writing of Forecast 2012, which I believe caused the stress that led to the distortion of vision (doctors do not confirm this), transiting Saturn was square my natal Moon at 21° Capricorn.

After extensive tests, and more to come, the doctors assure me that this will clear up in 90 days, or around the end of February. Maybe. But with Mercury remaining retrograde by progression for 19 years. I am not so sure. My solar return takes place tomorrow late afternoon (December 24) in Scottsdale, Arizona. It occurs under a new moon that is just one degree away from being the 19-year solar eclipse at 2° Capricorn (on my Sun). The next 19-year instance of this cycle will coincide with Mercury turning direct by progression. So whatever it is I am going through, it's part of a new 19-year cycle. This cycle will end with my Uranus return in 19 years.

The 19-year solar eclipse cycle (nodal conjunction to natal sun) is an important passage of life for everyone when it hits. For instance, for me, 19 years ago was when I left the Wall Street brokerage community as an Accounts Vice President of Retail Commodity Futures Accounts with Paine Webber. It was when I started writing the series of financial market timing books that have defined my contribution to this field, my legacy, if you will. The prior 19-year eclipse cycle landed on my birthdate in 1974. That is when I left the field of psychology and social work to write Evolutionary Astrology, which at that time also defined my contribution to this field of thought. The instance before that occurred when I was skipped from the second to fourth grade because I was proficient at math (I could multiply and divide when we just learning addition and subtraction). My whole life was rocked then and I began writing. The point is this: if a solar eclipse occurs on your birthday, or if the North or South Node of the Moon is within 18 degrees of your Sun on your birthday, your world is apt to change in a quite substantial and remarkable way. Pay attention when this happens. There are at least two solar eclipses each year. One may be coming to a neighborhood near you in the next year, especially if you are Taurus-Gemini or Scorpio-Sagittarius.

To those of you who do not study astrology, let me also say that the Uranus-Pluto transits have affected my natal planets since 2008 in much the same unpredictable way as they have everyone who is born the first week of every season (March 21-28, June 21-28, September 21-28, and December 21-28). It affects my life in much the same exciting and unexpected ways as anyone who has planets in these degrees, which is probably most of you reading this. Although this cycle of sudden change and dramatic shifts affects most of the world, I must say that overall I know I am truly blessed. I am excited to be living in these times, and I hope with all my heart that I am able to see this planet – the inhabitants of this planet – come out of this period and resume the renaissance in communications that we have all co-created over the past 20 years. We are all connected, and I sincerely believe that is the destination (path) of our collective evolution.

I am looking forward to seeing many of you in Zurich and Amsterdam next month. Be well, and enjoy this holiday season!

In the words of one of our subscribers: "I am really pleased with your recommendations through the Daily and Weekly Trade Recommendations. I have used them to trade gold and silver stocks in my IRA. In the last eight years I increased my account from $60,000 to $712,000. Thanks for your excellent publications." -Bryden C., Small Business Owner, Illinois. (He is up another $120,000 in the past month.) "The Ultimate Book on Stock Market Timing, Volume 5: Price Objectives and Technical Analysis" is now out! The comments and reviews are starting to come in, and we will post them here over the next few weeks. "The Ultimate Book on Stock Market Timing series is truly a life's work of grand proportion. Raymond Merriman has built the foundation upon which Financial Astrology can securely rest. Volumes 1-4 were more than a foundation, they were an edifice, and Volume 5: Technical Analysis and Price Objectives, is the pinnacle. Coupled with the timing strategies of the first 4 volumes, these volumes provide a complete trading methodology, brilliantly and logically presented, that any person who makes the time and the effort to understand, may trade profitably." - Duke O'Neil, President, Capstone Capital Wealth Management, Boulder, Colorado. The retail price of this new book is $144.00. If you are interested in this unique and integrated methodology for analyzing and forecasting stock indices, you can save big bucks by ordering all five volumes, or choice of any four now at http://www.mmacycles.com/catalogue/books/the-ultimate-book-on-stock-market-timing-volume-5/, or just go to www.mmacycles.com and scroll down to the announcement. If ordering all five volumes, you will save $99.00! For more information on this book, go to YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnplAS5m2AI, describing this new book. It is "the missing link." You may want to check this video out, as it contains some interesting long-term tips. We also report that just recently we sold out of the last copy of Volume 2. It will be rewritten and all the studies therein will be updated next year. In the meantime, we still offer the other 4 volumes. And if you pre-order the updated Volume 2, the cost to do so at this time will be $75.00. Once we get closer to completion, the new price will become $125.00. You may be able to secure a copy of this now out-of-print book on Amazon.com, but I do not know what the price will be there. Usually it is 2-5 times higher than the retail price. There is always a premium on our out-of-print books. They are in great demand – and for a reason!

This weekly report is written with the intent to educate the reader on the relationship between astrological factors and collective human activities as they are happening. In this regard, this report will oftentimes report what happened in various stock and financial markets throughout the world in the past week, and discuss that movement in light of the geocosmic signatures that were in effect. It will then identify the geocosmic factors that will be in effect in the next week, or even month, or even years, and the author's understanding of how these signatures will likely affect human activity in the times to come. The author (Merriman) will do this from a perspective of a cycle's analyst looking at the military, political, economic, and even financial markets of the world.

It is possible that some forecasts will be made based on these factors. However, the primary goal is to both educate and alert the reader as to the psychological climate we are in, from an astrological perspective. The hope is that it will help the reader understand these psychological dynamics that underlie (or coincide with) the news events and hence financial markets of the day.
